Zen And The Art Of Making A Long Putt

I'm sure you must have seen at least one Samurai movie in your lifetime. You know the scene, with the warrior standing erect and stiff, while tightly holding a sheathed sword in his left hand and the villagers scattering for their lives. The camera zooms in on his face, his eyes move slowly from left to right and beads of sweat trickle down his forehead. time seems to stop, and after what appears to be a lifetime, he slowly unsheathes the traditional weapon and assumes a fighting stance. Focused and unstoppable he then proceeds to wipe out the villains and save the poor villagers from the bad guys.

How many times have you felt like a samurai as you approach the green. A tournament deciding putt awaits and your partner looks on in helplessness as you prepare your mind for the task ahead. Slowly, you remove the putter from the bag and walk towards the ball. Ouch! That chip shot didn't go exactly as planned and you've left yourself with a ten meter long putt on a green with more hills than Rome. Genuflecting on one knee and holding the putter plumb at 90 degrees, your eyes follow the curves and contour to find the exact line to the cup. You take a deep breath to calm your nerves and bravely stand up. Trying to keeping mind all the factors that will enable you to succeed in making this difficult but possible shot you assume your stance.

Are my feet correctly positioned?

Are my shoulders straight?

Did I get the right line?

Am I focusing on the ball?

Will I keep my head down?

How much power do I need to give it?

Is my grip alright?

You can hear your heart beating in your chest and time slows down.

You could hear a pin drop. (If it weren't for the grass)

again, another deep breath, but this time holding it in, as you bring back the club head and take the shot.

You cannot see where the ball is going as it roller-coasters the uneven terrain but you anxiously wait for the exhilarating sound as ball meets cup in perfect unison.

How To Swing A Golf Club

golf is one of the favorite sports in several countries these days. Normally, people gather around the golf course to discuss business meetings or to simply unwind during the weekends. As the day pass by, golf players will feel relaxed and happy as they keep on swinging their golf clubs. They will feel even happier if each time they swing their golf clubs they are creating a perfect hit on the ball and will result to a win in the game.

When golf is played during business meetings or during relaxation time with friends, golf is played in a not so competitive manner. However, even if there were less pressure on your shoulders to win the game, it would still feel different to know that you played well.

Being able to play a good game in golf starts with knowing how to properly swing the golf club. It is according to the way you swing the golf club that will direct the ball to its direction. If you do not swing the golf club properly, there is a big chance that your turn to swing the ball will be wasted. To be able to learn how to properly swing the golf club, there are several things that should be taken into consideration first. These are the grip, body posture and the way you think during the game.

Grip is all about the way you hold the golf club. You need to develop a firm hold on the golf club to ensure that your hands will not twist into a different direction as you swing. The grip should not be too tight or too loose. Just put enough pressure in your hands to ensure that you are holding the golf club properly. The perfect sign to see if you are not holding your golf club properly is to see if you will develop blisters after the game. There are different types of grip that will suite your preference. Each of this type may have differences but it all follows the basic elements in making a proper grip.

Another element in having a proper swing is your posture. If you lack proper posture, everything will be affected in your swing. Even if you try to hide it, there are certain instances like your balance, stance, bending or knee flex that will be affected if you have poor posture. Proper posture is the foundation in putting your body into place as you prepare to swing the ball and without it, it would be difficult or even impossible to swing perfectly.

Lastly, your current state of mind plays an important role in executing a perfect swing. golf is not a physical game. It requires ample amount of concentration so you need to relax your mind as you prepare to release the swing.

Generally speaking, golf is more than just a game being played by businessmen. It may be a very easy game but when you do things incorrectly, it might turn out to harder than you imagined it to be.
